Introduction to hyperbolic geometry using Cabri

The following HTML pages and CabriJava figures are the notes of a presentation given at UQAM, Montreal, in July. They are based on computer laboratory sessions that I  run at a geometry summer school in England. In these, Hyperbolic 2 space modeled by the Poincaré disc, is explored using a Cabri menu bar with an extensive set of commands that I wrote in 1998.

The Menu Bar

     The  four new pull down icons on the menu bar each provide a number of commands of a
     similar nature.
     The four sections can be roughly categorised as follows;
     • Figures ; commands for drawing lines, line segments (or arcs), and standard figures in the
     disc.
     • Constructed lines and points ; perpendiculars, midpoints etc.
     • Reflections ; reflection (or inversion) of figures about a disc line.
     • Measurements ; non Euclidean distance between points, angles and triangle sums.

     Help, using the standard Cabri help item,  is available for each of the commands.

This menu bar can be found on my web site together with full instructions for all of the commands.   Download the file Hyperbol.men...or downloaded from these pages.
